- The first prototype 2000 Handcar has "Sodor RR" and the number nine printed on its sides, as well as a thinner weight and trapezoid middle section. The second version omits the number nine and is printed "Sodor Rail Road" on its sides.
- The 2000 Handcar features "Sodor Railroad" printed on its sides, despite Sodor being a British island.
- The Handcar character card states that Sir Topham Hatt uses it, although he has never been seen using a handcar in the books or television series.
