Trivia[]

  • The first prototype 1995 Rusty uses Mavis's face, has a lower-set body, an orange cab roof, and uses sticker decals for his name, number, and cab window. A second variant of this prototype appears in the 1995 yearbook with a white roof.
  • Roy Wilson also hand-made a second prototype with Toby's face and printed decals. Variants of this prototype with differently-positioned faces are known to exist.
  • The erroneous white roof on the 1995 Rusty may be due to a reference image of the television series model, where a reflection of the lightbox on Rusty's roof makes it appear white instead of black.
  • The 1995 Rusty having flat magnets is likely due to existing stocks of flat magnets already at the factories at the time.
  • The prototype 1995 Rusty is featured in the 1997-1998 pamphlets. The 1996 version is featured in the 1997 and 1998 yearbooks however.
  • Rusty is not featured in the 1999 pamphlet, but is featured in the 1999 yearbook.
  • The 1999-2000 Rusty character card gives Rusty she/her pronouns. This is due to Britt Allcroft intending to make Rusty gender-neutral because of a lack of female characters in the television series at the time.
  • Despite being discontinued separately after 1999, the 2001 Rusty was sold separately in certain countries such as New Zealand in 2006 and again in Europe in 2005-2006 and 2008-2009. This was also the case with the 1997 Stepney and S.C. Ruffey in the former and the 2002 Peter Sam in the latter. It would also be sold separately once again in Europe in 2012 instead of the 2012 Rusty.
  • The 2001 Rusty never had a cab ledge despite most other engines still having them until late 2002.
  • Rusty is the only Skarloey Railway engine in the Wood range.
  • The cancelled 2019 Rusty features printed details on painted wood and the chassis built into the body.
