- The James Express Pack vehicle oddly has red wheels and the same body as the Thomas Express Pack and Percy Express Pack.
- One prototype Battery-Operated James in the 2002 yearbook features light gray wheels and a small number "5" on the tender.
- Another prototype Battery-Operated James features black wheels.
- Battery-Operated James is one of the first vehicles to have boiler stripes.
